Reproduction and Development: Meiosis Phases Flashcards
Taken from SOAR's Unit 6 slideshow
Interphase I
Cell Growth occurs and chromatids count is doubles from 46 chromatids to 96 chromatids(chromosome count stays the same).
Prophase I
Chromosomes thicken and join with their homologous pairs. Chromosomes exchange some genetic information, otherwise known as crossing over.
Metaphase I
Homologous pairs align in the middle and spindle fibers connect each of the homologous pairs.
Anaphase I
Chromosomes pulled away by spindle fibers.
Telophase I
Two new nuclei are formed.
What happens at the end of Meiosis 1?
two diploids are formed
Prophase II
Spindle Fibers form in the respective diploids.
Metaphase II
Chromosomes line up in the middle and spindle fibers connect to the chromosomes.
Anaphase II
Chromatids are pulled away from each other by the spindle fibers.
Telophase II
4 Nuclei are created as a product.
What happens at the end of Meiosis 2?
four haploid cells are created
