abstract
-the first section in a journal article is a short summary/abstract that includes the aims,hypotheses,methods/procedure,results and conclusions.
-when researching a particular topic, psychologists will often read lots of abstracts in order to identify investigations that are worthy of further examination
introduction
the introduction is a review of the general area of investigation that details any relevant theories, concepts and studies that are related to the current study.
method
the method should include sufficient detail so that other researchers are able to replicate the study if they wish
the method is split into sub-sections
-design-e.g independent groups design, naturalistic observation+justification for the choice
-sample-information related to the people involved in the study
-apparatus/materials-detail of any assessment instruments that were used
-procedure-a recipe style list of everything that happened in the investigation from beginning to end
-ethics-an explanation of how these were addressed within the study
results
the results section should be a summary of the key findings from the investigation
e.g:tables,graphs,statistical test,critical values,
discussion
in the discussion section, the researcher will summaries the findings in a verbal than statistical form,
-research shouls include limitations of the investigation and how they may be addressed in the future
researchers should also consider the wider implications of their findings
e.g real-world application
referencing
full details of any source material that the researcher drew up on in the report
e.g:authors name,date,title of book,place of publication,publisher,page number
