Renal Flashcards
Classic triad of TURP syndrome
HTN, bradycardia, & change in mental status
Which abx are nephrotoxic?
Aminoglycosides (vanc, gent, tobramycin, amikacin, amphotericin B)
How do you calculate creatinine clearance/GFR for a man?
(140 - age) x (weight kg)/ (serum creatinine x 72)
How do you calculate GFR for women?
A creatinine clearance of 70 suggests?
Mild renal dysfunction
Arginine vasopressin increases GFR by causing?
Constriction of the efferent arteriole. For this reason it is a better option to preserve renal function when a potent vasopressor is required
What lab tests reflects the concentrating ability of the kidney?
Urine specific gravity & fractional excretion of sodium
How is bleeding time affected by ESRD?
Tx for uremic bleeding
Replenishing vWf (VIII) with desmopressin (1st choice). Cryo is second choice but carries risk of viral transmission
Stage 1: serum Cr 50 percent over baseline
Stage 2: UO < 0.5mL/kg/hr x 12 hrs
Stage 3: serum Cr > 4mg/dL
What is the dose of mannitol?
0.25 - 1g/kg
Tests of GFR
BUN (10-20)
Serum Creatinine (0.7-1.5)
Creatinine clearance (110-150)
Tests of tubular function
Fractional excretion of Na (1-3%)
urine osmolality
Urine Na concentration (130-260)
Urine specific gravity (1.003 - 1.030)
