Q

What is the split-half method?

A

Th test is randomly divided into two so that each half is equivalent. Internal reliability is demonstrated if the participants scores are similar on both halves

Q

What is item analysis?

A

Performance on each item is compared with the overall score. A good positive correlation suggests high internal reliability

Q

What is test re-test?

A

The same person is tested twice over a period of time. Similar scores demonstrate high external validity

8
Q

What is inter-observer reliability?

A

The ratings from more than one person are correlated to check for agreement. If correlation is low, it may be due to poorly designed behavioural characteristics

9
Q

What is inter-interviewer reliability?

A

Different interviewers should produce the same result when interviewing the same person, or the same interviewer should produce the same result when interviewing the same person on 2 different occasions. If the results are not the same, the interviewer may need some more careful training

What is replication?

A

Any research study should produce similar findings if repeated

Q

What is internal validity?

A

Describes the extent to which a study measures what it intends to measure.
About how other variables are controlled and extent that we can be certain that any changes in the DV were a result of the manipulation of the IV rather than the extraneous variables

13
Q

What is experimental realism?

A

A factor affecting internal validity
Refers to when a participants does not believe in the experimental set up and they may simply act so the results are meaningless.
The higher the experimental realism, the more a participant is involved with the task as if it were real

16
Q

What is face validity?

A

The items look like they measure what the test says it measures

17
Q

What is criterion validity?

A

Whether people who do well on the test do well on related things

18
Q

What is predicative validity?

A

Whether people who perform well on the test go on to be good at things you would expect them to be good at

19
Q

What is external validity?

A

Describes the extent to which the findings from a study can be generalised to everyday life and situations other than the context of the study

20
Q

What is ecological validity?

A

Described the extent to which the findings of a study can be generalised from the setting it was conducted to other settings

21
Q

What is population validity?

A

The study may use a restricted group of participants limiting how much the findings can be generalised
