Chi-squared test Flashcards
When would psychologists use a chi-squared test?
- nominal data
- Frequencies for different categories
- Independent groups design
How do you calculate the degrees of freedom in a chi-squared test?
(Numbers of rows - 1) x (number of columns -1)
What do you do once you have your X2 value in the chi-squared test?
Look at the critical values table at which degree of freedom you have at the p=0.05 level depending on if you have a one tailed or two tailed hypothesis
What conclusions can be drawn if the X2 value is smaller than the critical value in chi-squared test?
The results are not significant
Accept the null hypothesis
Reject the alternative hypothesis
What conclusions can be drawn if the X2 value is greater than the critical value in the chi-squared test?
The results are significant
Reject the null hypothesis
Accept the alternative hypothesis
