A
  • Release the exterior and expel cold, can induce mild sweating to expel pathogens from the muscle layer. External syndrome of wind-cold, expels wind-cold from muscle layer.
  • Warms the channels, used for wind-cold/wind-damp painful obstruction, joint pain e.g. shoulder, neck, or back pain
  • Warms Yang in the chest/upper jiao, used for yang deficiency affecting the upper jiao. Presents as upward movement of phlegm and thin mucus affecting the Lungs and Heart. SOB, chest pain/fullness, palpitations, cough with clear and thin sputum.

  • Warms Spleen/Stomach, calms vomiting, used for Cold in MJ, particularly with nausea/vomiting due to cold, epigastric pain
  • Warms Lungs, transforms phlegm, used for cough with profuse thin, light-coloured sputum.
  • Detoxifies and disinfects, used for reducing toxicity of other herbs (e.g. Ban Xia), seafood poisoning
