  • Rich, nutritious food in smaller amounts spread out over the day. Avoid eating heavily esp in evening
  • Bitter, pungent and drying ingredients - green tea with fried food
  • moderately pungent foods to dissolve phlegm

Meat - Lean meat
Vegetables - alfalfa sprouts, lettuce, celery, pumpkin, onion, shallot, garlic, turnip, watercress, radish
Grains and legumes - millet, rice, amaranth, adzuki bean, buckwheat, barley, corn, rye, sourdough, dry roasted oats
Fruits - pear, cherries, grape
Drinks, spices & condiments - ginger, dandelion, burdock, barley water, sage, jasmine & green tea, horseradish, mustard, caraway, white and black pepper
Cooking methods - fried food with green tea, meat and wine, cheese and chutney, pungent toppings on pasta (garlic).

A

Fatty & oily foods - oily, fatty meats & food, fried foods, nuts, eggs
Sweet foods - excessively sweet food, sugar, bananas, tropical fruits
Dairy & wheat - too much dairy (sheep and goat is less dampening), wheat, bread, beer
Concentrated foods - overly supplementing or concentrated foods (tomato paste, orange juice or dried fruit).

A

Eat: to strengthen the Spleen qi and stimulate the Spleen with bitter and aromatic flavours

Beneficial foods:
- Basmati rice with herbs (basil, thyme, fennel)
- Beans that are drying (broad bean, chickpea)
- Corn on the cob, pumpkin
- Cold damp - include warm, pungent herbs (horseradish, cardamom, ginger, clove, black pepper)
- Damp heat - millet, rice, barley, adzuki and mung beans, celery, seaweed, watercress

A
  • Strongly dried damp and strengthens the Spleen, used for Damp obstructing the MJ which blocks the Spleens T & T function. Clears dampness from the LJ. Symptoms: poor appetite, diarrhoea, epigastric distension, fatigue, nausea and vomiting, thick greasy tongue coating.
  • Damp heat pouring downward – vaginal discharge, oedema and swollen sore, joints
  • Dispels Wind-Damp, used for Wind-Damp Bi syndrome presenting as painful obstruction of the joints and limbs, oedema, external wind cold damp presenting as fever, chills, headache, body aches, nasal congestion and little or no sweats.
  • Brightens the eyes, used for visual disturbances which present as night blindness or diminished vision with a rough sensation in the eyes.

  • Clears Damp-heat, used to treat Damp-Heat at any level and expels pus. Presents as painful bladder dysfunction, dysentery, inflamed itchy eczema, acne, pustulated carbuncles, pulmonary and intestinal abscesses.
