- Foods warm in temp
- Flavours of bitter-warm, sweet-warm and pungent-warm
What would you suggest clients eat to benefit fluid conditions?
- Drying foods that supplement the Spleen
- Rich, nutritious food in smaller amounts spread out over the day. Avoid eating heavily esp in evening
- Bitter, pungent and drying ingredients - green tea with fried food
- moderately pungent foods to dissolve phlegm
Examples of foods that are beneficial for fluid conditions?
Meat - Lean meat
Vegetables - alfalfa sprouts, lettuce, celery, pumpkin, onion, shallot, garlic, turnip, watercress, radish
Grains and legumes - millet, rice, amaranth, adzuki bean, buckwheat, barley, corn, rye, sourdough, dry roasted oats
Fruits - pear, cherries, grape
Drinks, spices & condiments - ginger, dandelion, burdock, barley water, sage, jasmine & green tea, horseradish, mustard, caraway, white and black pepper
Cooking methods - fried food with green tea, meat and wine, cheese and chutney, pungent toppings on pasta (garlic).
What foods should be avoided with fluid conditions?
Fatty & oily foods - oily, fatty meats & food, fried foods, nuts, eggs
Sweet foods - excessively sweet food, sugar, bananas, tropical fruits
Dairy & wheat - too much dairy (sheep and goat is less dampening), wheat, bread, beer
Concentrated foods - overly supplementing or concentrated foods (tomato paste, orange juice or dried fruit).
What diet should be recommended for Dampness in the Spleen & Intestines?
Eat: to strengthen the Spleen qi and stimulate the Spleen with bitter and aromatic flavours
Beneficial foods:
- Basmati rice with herbs (basil, thyme, fennel)
- Beans that are drying (broad bean, chickpea)
- Corn on the cob, pumpkin
- Cold damp - include warm, pungent herbs (horseradish, cardamom, ginger, clove, black pepper)
- Damp heat - millet, rice, barley, adzuki and mung beans, celery, seaweed, watercress

What are the patterns / signs and symptoms for Ping Wei San?
- Spleen and stomach Dampness
- Distension and fullness in the stomach, loss of appetite, bland taste in the mouth, nausea and vomiting, heaviness of the limbs and diarrhoea.
- Tongue: White, greasy and thick coating
- Pulse: moderate pulse
What are the cautions / contraindications of Ping Wei San?
- Contraindicated for Yin fluid depleted clients, Spleen and stomach qi xu or pregnancy
What is the dosage of Ping Wei San?
8-12 pills, three times per day after meals

What are the signs and symptoms of Du Huo Ji Sheng Tang?
- Wind cold bi syndrome due to Liver and Kidney Qi and Blood xu.
- Presents as cold intolerance, pain worse in cold wet weather, heaviness and pain in the lower back or/and lower extremities, weakness and stiffness, hypertonicity and immobility, paresthesias or numbness, fatigue, breathlessness, pale complexion, postural dizziness.
- Tongue: pale
- Pulse: weak, deep, slow, thready
