What lead to the red clouds war?
In (1862) gold was discovered, and it required to use the Bozeman trail, which went through Lakota Sioux hunting grounds.
Over 2000 People travelled on the Bozeman trail. This broke the fort Laramie treaty of (1851)
In response to this the red cloud was invited by the government to allow whites to travel safely on the trail in return for gifts, and promises hunting grounds aswell
However red cloud did not trust them, and chose to fight instead of starve
What were the consequence of the red clouds war?
For 2 years they attacked builders of forts, then joined by other Sioux Lakota leaders such as sitting bull and craze horse. Cheyenne and ara piano bands joined aswell. There was about 3000 plain Indians against 700 soldiers
