What started the little crow war

A

Lakota groups signed a treaty and agreed to move onto too two smaller reservation. They gave up 24milion acres of land. In return for $1.4 mil and an annuity of $80,000

-the treaty stayed that they must pay back there debt from the traders first. Which they refused. Giving the giver many an excuse to not pay the money

-causing them too not produce enough food for the winter. Which the government did not supply

  • made Sioux pay for high prices for food. When they were on the brink of starvation. Causing zero annuity to be kept by the government

-1858 they were forced to sign of half of there treaty for money to pay debts

-1862 Dakota Sioux had no money to pay for food, from the late payments of the goveramnt. Which made them eat grass to survive. Despite storehouses being full of provision

What was the consequence of Lakota Sioux relocating territory?

A

Resulted in little crow taking the food from the agency warehouse. And distributed it among the starving poeple before burning down the buildings. Warriors ended up attacking the settlers out of little respect. Which caused them to kill 600 settlers and us soldiers

400 Dakota Sioux were put on trail, most sentenced to death, but there were 38 guilty of murder and raped.

They lead to them being relocated to the crow creek reservation. That were isolated and dry. Cussed many to starve to death in the first winter
