reading comp Flashcards
focus on how the facts in a passage relate to the main idea
you should be thinking to yourself why are these facts here?
make sure you know the subject and task of the question
the main idea of a passage is different than the topic of a passage
-the main idea is what the author wants you to believe about the topic
if the information you read can be used to explain why the author believes their claim/ conclusion then that information is evidence
think of a verb for a passage when thinking of the main idea such as:
explain
critique
compare
discuss
as you read basically think you are reading background information and looking for places the author takes some sort of stand, opinion or backs the background info up, etc
do not focus on the facts of the reading passages
instead, focus on why those facts are there. Think to yourself, why is the author telling me this?
