Radiology Imaging Of The Skeleton Flashcards
Diaphysis
Long central shaft
Epiphysis
Larger rounded ends of bone (condyals)
Metaphysis
Area between diaphysis and epiphysis at both ends. common for disease
Physis
Plates of cartilage, known as GROWTH plate
Apophysis
normal bony growth that arises from separate ossification center and fuses with the bone
Physes
Closure times vary, some physes close BEFORE birth
- species, neuter status, each bone has there own timeline
-we dont each skeletal maturity until all physes are closed
What view of the scapula is this radiograph
Caudal- cranial view
What view of the shoulder is this view
R lateral of humerus
What view of the shoulder is this X-ray
Caudal- cranial view
More Distal then scapula
What is this radiograph of and what is the arrow pointing too?
L lateral of the humerus
Arrow is pointing to osteoscarme (Bone tumor)
What is happening in this lateral carpus X-ray
Silhouetting and superimposition of carpal bones (overlapping)
What X-ray is being taken?
lateral view of the horses foot
What X-ray is being taken?
Dorsal Palmar
Dorso 65 proximal -palmaro distal obligue (65DP)
Dorsopalmar view
What view and what is the main bone being looked at
Palmar -proximal- palmar distal oblique
(flexor navicular view)
only good for looking at the navicular bone
Dorsopalmar view
DLPMO view
DMPLO view
DP view
DMPLO
Loose ability to see assessory bone
** test question **
DLPMO view
Caudal- cranial view
What are the small stripe like patterns called?
Turbinate patterns
How to X-ray a spine
proper positioning is essential, spine should be parallel to the table
In a Normal Cervical spine
C2 is adjacent or slightly overlapping C1
C1- tranverse process
C2- large spinous process
C6- large traverse process
C7- tall spinous process
How to the ribs articulate?
with the Crain aspect of the corresponding numbered vertebral body
Anticlinal verebra difference between t9-10 and t10-11
t-9-10: slit appearance
t10-11: larger bulb
In the normal lumbar spine what shouldn’t you confuse
increase opacity in disc space
Who has a longer vertebral bodies and transverse processes cat or dog
cat
sacrocaudual spine
composed of 3 fused sacral vertebral bodies in cat and dog
