Quiz 12/19/22 Flashcards
Where is water stored?
Oceans
clouds
springs
ice and snow
underground
air
How does water move? Give examples
It moves due to heat (the sun)
For example:
A runoff
Evaporation
Rain
Rivers
Streams
What is a Reservoir?
Stored water
What is a water transfer?
Moving water
The water the dinosaurs drink is the same as water we drink today. How can this be?
This is because of the water cycle. When the dinosaurs are done, drinking water, and pees, it is then evaporated and reproduced from precipitation again, and again
What causes the water to move up towards the sky?
The sun
What causes water to fall towards the Earth?
Gravity
What is happening on the molecular level between the sun and gravity?
Gravity keeps water down while the sun (also made out of heat) causes the water to evaporate, which makes the water go up
What is the difference between the two?
(Sun and Gravity)
Heat from the sun is a type of energy and gravity is a type of force
How does the molecular level help us make sense on a larger scale?
It helps us to understand the phase changes of the water
What happens to the water molecules when thermal energy a.k.a. heat is removed?
- It changes to a solid
- The molecules come closer together and slow down
- It gets more dense
What happens to water molecules when thermal energy is added?
- The water becomes a gas
- The molecules start to move, farther apart and move faster
- It gets less dense
