Pulse Flashcards
- A travelling pressure that cause an alternating expansion and recoil of the elastic arteries
Pulse
- Normally = ________ beats per min
- Tachycardia = ______ per min
- Bradycardia = below ____ per min
- 70-80
- 100
- 60
Common Sites of Pulses
- Superficial temporal artery
- Facial artery
- Femoral artery
- Popliteal artery
- Radial artery
- Dorsalis pedis
- Carotid artery
it arises from the external carotid artery
Superficial temporal artery
supplies the muscles and skin of the face.
Facial artery
extends down the thigh and becomes the popliteal artery
Femoral artery
back of the knee
Popliteal artery
lateral surface of lateral distal anterior surface of forearm
Radial artery
dorsum of the foot
Dorsalis pedis
lateral to the neck
Carotid artery
- Force exerted by the blood pushing against the blood vessels walls that circulated throughout the body
- Systolic blood pressure - highest pressure during systole; contraction of the ventricles; 1st sound
- Diastolic blood pressure - lowest pressure during diastole; relaxation of the ventricles; last sound
- Normal BP = 120/80 mmHg (that was before); now is prehypertensive pressure

Diastolic blood pressure
Normal BP = ________ mmHg (that was before); now is prehypertensive pressure
120/80
- begin in network of capillaries
