Pterygopalatine Fossa Flashcards
Pterygopalatine Ganglion
parasympathetic, 3 fibers
Sensory- V2
Pre Para- Greater Petrosal N
Post Symp- Deep Petrosal N
Greater Petrosal N
branch of CN7
takes pre para fibers to pterygopalatine ganglion
joins deep petrosal n to make N of Pterygoid Canal
Nerve of Pterygoid Canal
ends at pterygopalatine ganglion
pre para
Maxillary Nerve (V2)
sensory fibers
enters middle cranial fossa thru foramen rotunda, then pterygopalatine fossa
passes thru inferior orbital fissure to become Infraorbital Nerve
Intracranial Branch
from V2
innervates dura mater in middle cranial fossa
Ganglionic Branches
from V2
Connects V2 to pterygopalatine ganglion
has some post para fibers
Zygomatic Nerve
from V2
splits into zygomaticotemporal and zygomaticofacial
supplies skin over temporal region and cheek
Zygomaticotemporal Nerve
from V2
has post para to go to lacrimal gland
Posterior Superior Alveolar Nerve
From V2
supplies maxillary molar teeth and and mucosa of maxillary sinus
Middle Superior Alveolar Nerve
From V2
Supplies maxillary premolars and mucosa of maxillary sinus
Anterior Superior Alveolar Nerve
From V2
Supplies maxillary incisors and canine teeth and mucosa of maxillary sinus
Pterygopalatine Part of Maxillary Artery
enters pterygopalatine fossa thru pterygomaxillary fissure
branches follow V2
Posterior Superior Alveolar Artery
from Pterygopalatine Part
supplies maxillary molar and premolar teeth, and mucosa of maxillary sinus
Infraorbital Artery
From Pterygopalatine Part
splits into anterior superior alveolar a and terminal branches
Anterior Superior Alveolar Artery
from Infraorbital A
supplies maxillary incisor and canine teeth, mucosa of maxillary sinus
