Borderline personality disorder
Condition where a person makes impulsive actions and has an unstable mood and chaotic relationships
Conversion disorder
Signs of physiological stress in physical ways. Mental or emotional crisis that converts to a physical problem. Symptoms can appear with no underlying physical cause and can not be controlled and typically affect movement or senses
Delirium
Disturbance in mental abilities that result in decreased awareness of the environment and confused thinking, onset is usually sudden within hours or a few days and can be traced to severe or chronic medical illness, meds, surgery, or drug/alcohol abuse
Eating disorder
Serious conditions where one is too preoccupied with food and weight that you can often focus on little else. Include anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa and binge-eating disorder
Bulimia Nervosa
Having episodes of bingeing and purging; typically eat late amounts of food in a short duration then rid yourself of the calories by excessive exercise or vomiting. Usually at a normal weight or a bit overweight

ECO- emergency containment order
Called on someone who a person thinks is a threat to themselves or others; allows the patient to be held against their will until a physician can evaluate and determine whether or not they are a threat
PTSD - post traumatic stress disorder
Mental health condition triggered by a terrifying event. Symptoms include flashbacks, nightmares, severe anxiety, and uncontrollable thoughts about the event
Schizoaffective disorder
A mental condition that causes both a loss of contact with reality and mood problems
Schizophrenia
Mental disorder making it difficult to tel the difference between real and unreal experiences, to think logically, to have normal emotional responses, and to behave normally in social situations
Auditory hallucination
Hallucinations involving perceived sounds without auditory stimulus
Court order petition
If a physician considers a person a threat but they refuse to be admitted, the court will issue this to keep them in the hospital for a certain period of time
Manic episode
A state of abnormally elevated or irritable mood, arousal / energy levels

Anxiety disorder characterized by unreasonable thoughts and fears (obsessions) that lead you to repetitive behaviors (compulsions)
Panic disorder
Anxiety disorder causing repetitive, unexpected attacks of intense fear
Paranoia
Thought process heavily influenced by anxiety or fear, often to the point of irrationality/ delusion
Petition
Where someone feels another person requires psychiatric treatment against their will; “cert” is the physician certifying the patient should go to inpatient psychiatric center

The rapid thought patterns that often occur in manic disorders
Substance abuse
Maladaptive pattern of use of a substance that is not considered dependent
Suicidal gesture
Refers to suicide attempts or gestures and self harm where there is no actual intention to die

Anxious, depressed, angry, blunt, labile, inappropriate
Speech
Rapid and pressured, slurred, delayed, tangential (irrelevant, detailed, digressive), non-communicative
Behavior
Agitated, slowed, withdrawn, hallucinating, inattentive, combative, aggressive, hyperactive
Thought content
Paranoid, suicidal, homicidal, plan of homicide, plan of suicide
Cognition and memory
Impaired, abnormal recent memory, abnormal remote memory
Judgement
Impulsive, inappropriate
