Proteins Flashcards
What is protein
It’s a nutrient necessary for proper muscle growth and function of the human body
Solid foods take longer to digest and break down the protein than shakes do. Shakes take 30 mins to reach muscles after ingestion
It’s reccomended that they average person not trying to gain muscle gets .36x their body weight in protein
Hydrolozed protein
Absorbs rapidly into the bloodstream
Isolate protein
It’s more pure than concentrate, so u get more protein per equal doses. They also tend to have less fat, cholesterol and carbs.
It’s good if u wanna reduce lactate intake, cuz they’re lactose free
Casein protein
It simply digests slower due to its complex interaction with stomach acid. It’s ideal for when a slow release is beneficial (like before bed or when you can’t eat for 10 hours). They provide your body w/ a steady flow of nutrients and limit the risk of muscle breakdown during fasting
Plant proteins
Dairy free, serves a lot of the same purposes as animal based protein, but good for vegan and vegetarian folks.
If you can find a plant protein with a rice and pea blend that’s best cuz when used together it has the same essential amino acids found in whey
Animal based are casein, whey and egg
When to take protein 4 best times
1) first thing in the AM. This is good for rebuilding after your overnight fast
2) in between meals
3) the 30-60 mins after exercise
4) casein before bed
Bodytech protein
It’s independently tested.
Natural proteins
Free from artificial ingredients, so grass fed or unflavored, is what u want
