How are most prostate cancers detected?
Elevations in serum most patients are asymptomatic
Rarely present with sign of neurological symptoms secondary to epidural metastases
Can large or extensive prostate cancers cause obstructive symptoms?
Yes
What lab findings will you have?
8-30% of men with intermediate degrees of elevation will be found to have prostate cancer 4.1-10ng/ml
50 and 70% of men with elevations greater than 10ng/ml will be found to have prostate cancer
What treatments are rendered for prostate cancer?
Active surveillance
Radical prostatectomy
Radiation therapy
Cryosurgery
Androgen deprivation therapy for advanced disease
