Proenzymes and proteases Flashcards
1
Q
What is the difference between a proenzyme and a protease. Give an example and location of it.
A
Proenzymes are the inactive forms of enzymes. They need other substances to be active. An example of this HCl and pepsin.
A protease is an enzyme that breaks down proteins and peptides. After HCl activates the release of pepsin, it becomes pepsinogen and is able to breakdown proteins via digestion.
