Butyrate Flashcards
1
Q
What is butyrate? What is the significance of butyrate? Where is it made? Who makes it? Under what circumstances?
A
Butyrate is an important short chain fatty acid (SCFA) made by gut bacteria.
It is significant because it supports digestive health, control inflammation and helps prevent disease. It’s capable of combatting obesity, diabetes, cancers, and plugs leaky guts.
It is made in the large intestine by our gut bacteria (colonocytes) via prebiotic sources.
