Q

What is diabetic neuropathy? What has to occur for a diabetic to get to this condition?

Where else in the body doe s diabetes cause permanent damage if blood glucose levels are not controlled?

A

Diabetic neuropathy is severe nerve damage to the nerve fibers and the sheath around the fibers in nerves.

It is caused from a prolonged exposure to high blood glucose levels by blocking capillaries and vessels from lack of blood flow to the nerve.

There are microvascular and macrovascular affects. Uncontrolled blood sugar levels can affect the eyes, kidneys, brain heart and extremities. Kidney disease, stroke, eye disease and heart attack are increased if not controlled.
