Primitive Reflexes - PPT FOR QUIZ Flashcards
How does body control and general skill acquisition develop?
From head to toe
Proximal to distal
When does ATNR integrate?
6 months
How is the symmetrical Tonic Neck Reflex elicited and what occurs?
Head positioned in either flexion or extension
Head flexed: arms flexed and legs extented
Head extended: arms extended, legs flexed
When does STNR integrate and when is it seen?
6 to 8 months when learning to crawl
Integrates 11 months
What are 3 things STNR can interfere with?
- ability to prop on arms in prone
- positioning in quadruped
- crawling reciprocally
What is the Tonic Labyrinthine Reflex (TLR)?
In Supine: body and extremities are held in extension
In Prone: body and extremities are held in flexion
OR learned that head is extended in lying causes arch of back and stiffening or legs etc. Beyond newborn stage this is abnormal extensor tone
What is the normal age of response for the Tonic Labyrinthine Reflex?
Birth to 6 months
What is the stimulus and response with the Galant Reflex?
Stimulus: touch the skin along spine from shoulder to hip
REsponse: lateral flexion of trunk to side of stimulus
What is the normal age of response for galant reflex?
When does it integrate
birth to 2 months
Integrates around 6 months
What is the stimulus and response for the Palmar Grasp Reflex?
Stimulus: pressure in palm on ulnar side of hand
Response: flexion of fingers causing strong grip
When is integration for Palmar Grasp Reflex?
4-6 months
What is the stimulus/response for Plantar Grasp Reflex?
Stimulus: pressure to base of toes
Response: Toe flexion
When does Plantar Grasp Reflex integrate?
9 months
What is stimulus/response for Rooting Reflex?
S: touch on cheeck
R: turning head to same side with mouth open
Normal integration for rooting reflex?
3 months
