Pressure and rate Flashcards
In a reaction between reacting gases an
increase in pressure
increases rate of reaction
Higher pressure (graph)
steeper curve
Lower pressure (graph)
flatter curve
Higher pressure ->
same number of reactant particles in a smaller volume -> more frequent collisions -> more product forms per second -> rate of reaction increases
ERQ - pressure and rate
-Increasing pressure of reacting gases increases the rate of reaction
- Same number of reactant particles in a smaller volume
- Frequency of collisions increase so more product forms per second
- Quantity of product formed stays the same
- Curve for low(est) pressure = Curve steep at the start, curve horizontal at the end, as the same quantity of product is produced
overall
- Curve for high(est) pressure = curve steepest at the start, curve horizontal at the end as the same quantity of product is produced overall
