Q

How are polymers formed

A

small unsaturated molecules (monomers) are joined together to form longer molecules

Q

Condensation polymerisation definition

A

2 different monomers which have reactive ends, they produce a polymer and a smaller molecule (usually water)

Q

Describe the process of additional polymerisation using ethene

A

small monomer units called ethene C2H4, C=C double bond is reactive, C=C bond breaks under pressure because of a catalyst, same monomers join together to form a repeating chain of monomers, a polymer is formed called polyethene, process is called
additional polymerisation as the same monomers join (added) together to make a polymer
