A
  • baby blues
    • experienced by most women in week after birth, esp primips
    • tearfulness & anxiety
  • post-natal depression
    • peak at 3 months
  • puerperal psychosis
    • 1/1000 women
    • starts a couple weeks after birth

how does post partum thyroiditis manifest?

A

hyper or hypothyroid

usually goes back to normal, but a small % of women remain hypothyroid

pathophysiology of sheehan’s syndrome

A

reduced BV in PPH–> avascular necrosis of anterior pituitary gland

ant pituitary supplied by hypothalamo-hypophyseal portal system which is v suscpetible to reduced BP –> ischaemia –> necrosis
