what is it?
A
when fertilised egg is implanted outside uterus, most often in fallopian tube

when does it usually present?
A
around weeks 6-8

risk factors?
A
- previous PID
- previous tubal surgery / EP
- IUD
- IVF

pathophysiology
A
implantation in tube and subsequent invasion into muscularis layer–> rupture and bleeding into abdo cavity

presentation?
A
- lower abdominal pain & tenderness
- light vaginal bleeding
- cervical excitation

Q
what do NICE criteria recommend not to do in suspected EP?
A
palpate adnexa as may cause rupture

Ix?
A
- TVUS
- confirm absence of pregnancy in uterus
- HCG & progesterone
- FBC
- Group & save + cross match

Q
Mx?
A
- haemodynamically stable, minimal symptoms & no bleeding
- IM Methotrexate
- anyone else –> surgery
- salpingectomy /salpingotomy
