outline the endocrine role of placenta

A
  • secreted oestrogen + progesterone

PROGESTERONE:

  • causes uterine muscles + other muscles in body to relax
    • LOS–> heartburn
    • blood vessels–>hypotension
  • maintains endometrium
  • raises body temperature (0.5-1)

OESTROGEN:

  • causes uterine muscles & ligaments to expand and cervix to soften
  • enlarges & prepares breasts for BF
