Q

3 Types of Bacteria that cause Pneumonia

A

Pneumococcus ( Main cause)
Staphylococcus
Streptococcus

17
Q

Definition

A

Acute inflammation and infection of the lung/bronchioles/respiratory tissue

18
Q

Common Symptoms

A
Cough with rust sputum
High fever - above 40c
Dyspnea
Sudden Onset
*Cold/chills - Indicates High fever*
Malaise
Nausea/vomiting

~ Starts as cough/cold and symptoms gradually get worse

19
Q

Western Diagnosis

A

Chest X-ray - Shallow lung lobe

  • Pneumonia takes over the whole lobe
  • TB only affects the upper part of the lobe
20
Q

Organs Involved

A

Lung
Large Intestine
Heart
Pericardium

21
Q

4 Stages of Pneumonia

A

1st Stage: Congestion: first 24 hours, vascular

2nd Stage: Red Hepatization ( Looks like liver): The lung becomes solid

3rd Stage: Grey Hepatization: Red cells disintegrate turning the lung gray

4th Stage: Resolution: Cleared by macrophages

22
Q

TCM Treatment

A

Tcm doesn’t treat pneumonia still need antibiotics but can help manage

Early: disperse wind - GB 20
Middle: clear heat, dispel phlegm - bleed LU 11, St 40, LI 11, Ren 12
Late: nourish Yin - tonify kid 3, UB 43

Yang Qi Depletion- Ren 4/6, Du 20

Ear bleeding
Herbal
Cupping and Guasha (early to middle stage)

23
Q

Education

A
Adequate fluid intake
Avoid EPF
Monitor temp
No greasy food
Eat soup
Rest
