Infection of the terminal bronchioles and alveoli

Setting (hospital or community)
Anatomy (lobar if in one lobe, or bronchopneumonia if more widespread)
Organism (bacterial, viral, fungal)

Signs and symptoms of pneumonia
A
Fever with or without rigors Cough - green, blood stained or rusty sputum Pleuritic chest pain Muscle or joint pain ^RR ^HR Crackles

Management of pneumonia
A
O2 depending on sats
CRB-65 score (confusion; RR>30; BP<90 or 60; 65 or older). Two or more = hospital

Pathophysiology of pneumonia
A
Inflammation due to infection
Build up of fluid and red & white blood cells in the alveoli (consolidation)
