Plant Munch Flashcards
What are the 3 things needed for Photosynthesis?
Light, CO2, and H2O
What do photons do to electrons?
Raise them to a higher energy state
What are molecules that absorb specific wavelengths called?
Pigmens
Where do light dependent reactions occur?
Thylakoid membranes
Where do light independent reactions occur?
Stroma
What do antenna pigments do?
Pass energy to chlorphyll molecules in reaction centers where e- transport occurs
What are the two paths an electron can take for photosynthesis?
Z scheme and Cyclic phosphorylation
What is produced in Z scheme?
Oxygen, ATP, and NADPH (keep in mind theres 2 of each cus theres 2 water molecules that go in)
What does cyclic photophosphorylation make?
Only ATP, there is no net reduction or oxidation
What causes water to split?
Light absorbing into P680 (a pigment)
Where are protons pumped to in ATP synthase inside chloroplasts?
OUTSIDE (opposite of in mitochondria) which would be the stroma
What does the Calvin cycle do?
Converts CO2 into more reduced compounds like carbohydrates using the ATP and NADPH it produced from the light reactions
What is the net equation of the Calvin cycle?
3 CO2 + 9 ATP + 6 NADPH + 5 H2O -> G3P + 6 NADP+ + 8 Pi
What amount of G3P is used to make macromolecules?
1/6 produced
