pilot studies and peer review Flashcards
What is a pilot study?
A study with only a few participants, that is used to identify potential flaws in an experiement
Why dont researchers analyse results from pilot studies?
- The design of the main study might change.
- the small sample size means the results are not as reliable.
what are the pros of pilot studies?
We can correct potential flaws in a study, and then correct them.
This will save us a lot of money, effort, and time.
what is a peer review?
When other researchers in the same field, view a report, and say what is gpood or bad, or what should be changed, before the report is published.
What are the pros of peer review?
- protects society from bad research
- Helps to maake research better. They can make the study more valid, and reliable.
What are the cons of peer review?
1.peer reviewers might not be objective, and allow personal bias to interfere.
2.peer reviewrs may not support the study, despite the study being a good one.
