What is assimilation
Taking in new information and making it part of a pre-existing mental idea
What is accommodation?
Involves changing a pre-existing mental idea in order to fit new information
What is schema?
Mental idea of what something is and how to act on it
What is the first stage?
Sensorimotor stage ( 0-2 ) - infants learn about world through senses and motor activities
What is the second stage?
Pre operational stage ( 2-7 ) - infants become increasingly able to mentally represent objects.
What is the third stage?
Concrete operational stage ( 7-12 ) - child is capable of logical thoughts and can perform mental operations.
What is the fourth stage?
Formal operational stage ( 12+ ) - involves complex thought processes due to brain maturation and life experiences

Understanding an object still exists even if it cannot be seen, heard or touched.
