What is the cerebrum?
Primarily responsible for cognitive processes such as learning, memory and thinking ( forebrain )
What is the thalamus?
Receives information from sensory organs and passes it to relevant parts of the brain for analysis ( forebrain )
What is the hypothalamus?
Regulates body’s internal environment ( forebrain )
What is the reticular formation?
Network of neurons that regulates alertness and modifies muscle movements ( midbrain )
What is the brain stem?
Connects brain to the rest of the body ( midbrain )
What is the pons?
Associated with sleep and dreaming ( hindbrain )
What is the medulla?
Controls vital survival functions such as breathing and heart rate ( hindbrain )
What is the cerebellum?
Coordinates movement and regulates posture and balance ( hindbrain )
What is the spinal cord?
Links the brain and the rest of the body via the PNS ( back of hindbrain )
What is the corpus callosum?
Bridge of nerve fibres connecting the right and left cerebral hemispheres ( forebrain )
