Physics hearing and ear Flashcards
What is the function of the pinna?
Direct sound waves into the auditory canal
What is the function of the eardrum?
Vibrates and passes sound waves to the ossicles
What is the function of the ossicle?
Amplifies sound and makes the oval window vibrate, then passes it to the cochlea
What is the function of the chochlea?
Turns the sound waves into an electrical signal so it can pass through the auditory nerve
What is the function of the auditory nerve?
Gets the signal through your brain so that you can detect the sound
When the sound wave enters the ear, does the eardrum vibrate?
Yes
When the oval window vibrate, this make the….. inside the cochlea vibrate
liquid
Cells at the base of the hair inside the cochlea, produce?
An electrical signal that travels up the auditory nerve to your brain
How is volume measured?
Decibels
Your hearing can be affected by?
Loud sounds or ear wax
Two ways to protect your haring form damage?
Wear ear protection, turn down volume down to protect your hearing from damage cochlea
What two parts of the ear make up the inner ear?
Cochlea and semi-circular canals
