Biology gas exchange Flashcards
What gas is used from the atmosphere which is used by the human body?
Oxygen
What waste as is made form the body?
Carbon Dioxide
How can you define that water is a waste product?
If exhales on the glass, there is water vapour
What is the process in the alveolus?
Dffusion
What adaptations help with the alveoli with gas exchange?
Alveoli wall is one cell wall thick
Capillary wall is one cell wall thick
The structure of the alveoli have a large surface area whic increases the rate of diffusion
What is the another word for air sacks?
Alveoli
What disease affects the lungs?
Emphysema is a disease that affects the lungs caused by smoking
Is breathing and respiration the same?
No because respiration is a chemical reaction
How does air travel through the lungs?
Air enters the nose and mouth Air moves down the trachea (windpipe) Air moves down a bronchus Air move down the bronchiole Air moves into an alveolus (air sac) Oxygen then diffuses into the blood
Why do you need more oxygen when you are exercising?
The harder you exercise, the faster your breathing rate and the greater the volume of breathing. This allows you to take in the oxygen you need to respire more, which transfers more energy to your muscle cells
What is the composition of air?
How much different gasses are present in inhaled and exhaled air
