Q

What adaptations help with the alveoli with gas exchange?

A

Alveoli wall is one cell wall thick
Capillary wall is one cell wall thick
The structure of the alveoli have a large surface area whic increases the rate of diffusion

Q

How does air travel through the lungs?

A
Air enters the nose and mouth
Air moves down the trachea (windpipe)
Air moves down a bronchus
Air move down the bronchiole
Air moves into an alveolus (air sac)
Oxygen then diffuses into the blood

Q

Why do you need more oxygen when you are exercising?

A

The harder you exercise, the faster your breathing rate and the greater the volume of breathing. This allows you to take in the oxygen you need to respire more, which transfers more energy to your muscle cells
