Why are nutrients important?
They are important substances that your body needs to survive and stay healthy
What are the six types of nutrients?
Carbohydrates Lipids (fats and oils) Proteins Vitamins and minerals Water
What is the main role of carbohydrates?
They provide energy
What is the main role of lipids?
Provide a store of energy
What is the main role of proteins?
Used for growth and repair (repair tissues and grow new cells)
How much vitamins and minerals do you need?
Needed in small amounts to keep your healthy
We’re is water needed in the body?
All cells and body fluids
What is dietary fibre and is that a nutrient?
It provides bulk to food to keep it moving through the gut and is needed to make red blood cells, fibre is not a nutrient but it is important for a healthy diet
What are the two different type of carbohydrates and what are they used for?
There are simple carbohydrates (sugars) and the are found in foods such as sugar and fruit, they provide quick sources of energy and there is complex carbohydrates (starch) and thee are found in foods such as pasta and bread, they have to be broken down down by the body so the energy is released more slowly
What are the three important jobs that happens in the lipids?
Provide you a store of energy
Keep you warm y providing a layer of institution under your skin
Protects organs like kidney and heart form damage
What body parts are your proteins made of?
Muscles, organs and inure system
Why are vitamins needed?
Vitamin are needed for you to grow, develop and function normally
Why is vitamin A needed?
For good eyesight
Why is vitamin D needed?
Mineral calcium to maintain healthy teeth and bones
What is iron used for?
Making red blood cells
