Ethanol
When you drink alcohol, how does it go into the nervous system?
It gets absorbed into the bloodstream and then travels into your brain, where it will affect the nervous system
Why is alcohol called a depressant?
Slows down the nervous system
Who are alcoholics?
People that drink alcohol regularly and need greater amounts of alcohol to do the same effects on the body
What are the affects of drinking too much alcohol?
Stomach ulcers, heart disease and brain and liver damage as well as having a red bulbous nose
How does your alcohol affect your liver?
Your liver breaks down harmful chemicals like ethanol into harmless waste products and by your liver breaking down more amounts of ethanol, the liver will get damaged and need more time to break down the ethanol
Why shouldn’t pregnant women drink?
Increases the risk of miscarriage, stillbirth, premature birth and low-weighted babies. When pregnant women drink, the ethanol diffuses into the babies bloodstream
What happens to the baby if the ethanol has diffused into their bloodstream?
damage the babies organs and nervous system form development and when born, it can result in learning difficulties, facial problems and poor immune systems
