photosynthesis Flashcards
1
Q
photosynthesis equation
A
Equation: Water + Carbon Dioxide → Glucose + Oxygen
- 6H2O+6CO2 → C6H12O6 + 6O2
2
Q
light dependent reactions
A
- Thylakoid absorbs sunlight to start reactions
- Reactions split water molecules into hydrogen and oxygen ions
- Oxygen released into atmosphere
- Hydrogen ions used to make ATP (powers next step)
3
Q
calvin cycle
A
- Occurs in stroma of chloroplast
- Carbon dioxide from air → converted to glucose using enzymes + ATP
- 6 molecules of CO2 to make a glucose molecule
- When Calvin Cycle finishes → ATP used up and becomes ADP for the light dependent reactions
4
Q
rate of photosynthesis
A
- Light Intensity
- Too little/much light or wrong kind of light will slow down growth of plants - Carbon Dioxide Levels
- Plants take in CO2 from the atmosphere through tiny holes in leaves
- Too much CO2 → temperature to rise which could damage some plants
- Temperature
- High temperatures can interfere with photosynthesis because of the denaturing of enzymes
