circulatory system Flashcards
blood
1. red blood cells
2. white blood cells
3. platelets
4. plasma
- Red blood cells - carry oxygen around body
- White blood cells (immune system) - ingests/engulfs invaders in body
- Platelets - cell fragments that repair holes in blood vessels
- Plasma (space in between) - helps distribute nutrients + remove waste while moving throughout system
veins
1. pulmonary veins
Veins - tubes that carry deoxygenated blood to heart except (besides pulmonary vein)
1. Pulmonary vein - carries oxygenated blood from the lungs to heart
arteries
1. pulmonary artery
Arteries - (thick and meaty) tubes that carry oxygenated blood to the heart (besides pulmonary artery)
1. Pulmonary artery - carries deoxygenated blood from heart to lungs
capillaries
connects veins and arteries (exchange of gasses)
path of blood
capillaries → vein with deoxygenated blood → superior/inferior vena cava →right atrium → right ventricle → pulmonary artery → lungs →
(CO2 from blood → lungs/Oxygen from lungs → blood) pulmonary vein → left atrium → left ventricle → aorta → back to wherever started
how circulatory system maintains homeostasis
Transport system that is responsible for carrying oxygen, wastes, blood cells, hormones, nutrients, and antibodies throughout your body
