Q

energy overview

A
  • Food = chemical energy found in bonds of carbs/proteins/fats
  • Cellular Energy = ATP which comes from breakdown of chemical energy (glucose)
  • Why do our cells need energy?
    • To build complex molecules
    • Active transport in nerve cells
    • Contract+relax muscles in body
    • Move things around cells
    • Secrete out molecules
  • Consists of adenine, ribose, three phosphate groups
  • Lots of energy released when broken
  • High energy bond between 2nd + last phosphate group broken → energy released + ADP formed
  • Energy from food used to add phosphate group back to ADP, forming ATP and storing energy again
