excretory system Flashcards
1
Q
what does the excretory system do
A
- Eliminates waste and toxins from body
- Regulates blood volume/pressure/blood pH/produces urine, etc.
2
Q
organs in excretory system
A
- Skin (Sweat - removes excess salts/water/etc. + cools body)
- Lungs - carbon dioxide is released from here, which helps the regulation of CO2 in the blood
- Liver - converts toxic nitrogen-based cellular waste from protein breakdown into urea
- Kidneys - filters out wastes/excess water/urea/salts/other waste from the blood
- Nephrons - processing units within the kidney that absorb valuable substances and get rid of waste in blood
3
Q
path of urine
A
- Kidney - forms urine
- Ureter
- Bladder - urine storage
- Urethra
- Out the body
4
Q
maintaining homeostasis in the excretory system
A
- Kidneys control level of sodium and blood and helps control osmotic pressure of blood
- Regulate pH of blood by filtering
- Glucose – usually not filtered out of the blood by kidneys
