What does the preparatory phase consist of?

A
  1. During off-season there will be general conditioning such as aerobic training, mobility training and s&c.
  2. During pre-season, progressive overload is the focus and intensity of training increases. Training becomes sports specific such as aerobic performance for a 400m sprinter. As competition phase gets closer the training volume will decrease and practice games will take over or sprint starts phase for 400m sprinter.

A

Performers maintain their fitness that they have developed, avoid injuries and focus on strategies and tactics.

What is tapering?

A

Tapering involves maintaining the intensity but decreasing the volume of training by one third to prepare for competition

A

There is active rest and recuperation. There is low-intensity aerobic work, such as swimming or cycling.
