How do beta blockers lower BP?
By blocking the b1 & b2 receptors.
-⬇️ HR, ⬇️ contractility, ⬇️ renin & angiotensin 2: directly ⬇️ BP
How do beta blockers work on heart failure?
Increase the hearts sensitivity to NE (which bind to b1 and b2)
Blocking beta receptors causes what?
Lower HR
Lower contractility
Lower CO
= lower BP
Beta blockers use what type of dosing?
Target dose
Start slow and increase slow until desired effect is reached
Beta blocker side effects
- Bradycardia/ brady arrhythmia
- vasospasm-b2
*bronchospasm- b2 - metabolic abnormalities: hyperglycemia/ ⬇️ insulin activity ( ⬇️ profusion)
Depression
Withdrawal
Hypotension - new diabetes

- by blocking b2 receptors- this causes Vado spams and bronchospasm- bad for ppl who have asthma and COPD
