Q

How do beta blockers lower BP?

A

By blocking the b1 & b2 receptors.

-⬇️ HR, ⬇️ contractility, ⬇️ renin & angiotensin 2: directly ⬇️ BP

Q

Beta blocker side effects

A
  • Bradycardia/ brady arrhythmia
  • vasospasm-b2
    *bronchospasm- b2
  • metabolic abnormalities: hyperglycemia/ ⬇️ insulin activity ( ⬇️ profusion)
    Depression

Q

Cardio selective beta blockers-7

“Lol”

A

Specific to b1 receptors
* antagonize b1 receptors (inhibit binding of NE)
Lower BP: ⬇️ HR, ⬇️ contractility, ⬇️ renin and angiotensin 2

❤️ failure: ⬆️ hearts sensitivity to NE to ⬆️ HR

Q

Non selective beta blockers-4

“Lol”

A

Antagonize both b1 and b2 receptors

  • ⬇️ HR, ⬇️ contractility, ⬇️ renin and angiotensin 2
  • by blocking b2 receptors- this causes Vado spams and bronchospasm- bad for ppl who have asthma and COPD
