Aldosterone: causes the body to retain nacl and h20= ⬆️ blood volume= ⬆️ BP
And causes vessels to become fibrotic
A
By blocking the effects of aldosterone the body doesn’t retain nacl or water= lower blood volume= ⬇️ BP

May be better than ace and arbs in low renin HTN
More established in heart failure
-Lower salt and water retention
-lower vascular fibrosis

K+ sparing diuretic
- non specific, blocks androgens
- lower in cost

- gynecomastia- blocking androgens
- Hyperkalemia **
Do not use if renal fxn is impaired
