Personality types A level PE Flashcards
What is nature vs nurture
Nature- trait theory (unique characteristics which are your traits)
Nurture- Social learning theory (developing personality traits by associating and learning from others)
Vicarious learning
Observational learning- occurs when a person is motivated to to learn by watching someone else work and be rewarded
What is the interactionist perspective?
Theory combines trait and social learning to predict a specific situation
What is the formula for this
B=f(P x E)(Lewin)
Suggests behaviour is a function of personality and environment
What are the 3 features of the Hollander approach to the interactionist theory?
1 Core of the performer
2 Typical responses
3 Role related behaviour
What is the Core of the performer?
Values and beliefs of the performer
What are the typical responses?
The use of inherit traits displayed to specific situations.
What is role related behaviour?
Suggests the performer may adapt or adapt a very specific role when the situation demands
Can personality predict behaviour?- (which approach is this)
Credulous approach- you believe theories + accept the link that personality can predict behaviour
What is the Sceptical approach?
You don’t believe the theories, you doubt the link that personality can predict behaviour
How can the interactionist theory improve performance?
- coach can predict aggressive behaviour (take them off before)
-coach can recreate situations in game (nervous performer can perform in-front of a crowd.
-core values may be hard to alter so need to be reinforced by significant others (coach/ captain)
