What is motivation?
A drive to succeed
Name 4 types of motivation:
Intrinsic- motivation from within (self satisfaction)
Extrinsic- motivation from an outside resource.
Tangible- can be touched, physical rewards.
Intangible- aren’t physical, can’t be touched (praise)
Name two extrinsic motives:
-Attract to the activity and provide early motivation, yet if used too much may undermine value of activity.
-Extrinsic rewards create pressure and motivation can be lost (lead to cheating- PED’s).
Two intrinsic motives:
-Intrinsic rewards more effective, stronger and long lasting.
-They give more satisfaction and a sense of control.
Four methods used for motivation:
-Rewards, praise and positive reinforcement
-Make the task fun/ enjoyable
-Point out benefits of exercise
-Point out role models
