A
- Underlying GI condition
- Perforated organ
- Peritoneal dialysis
- Ascites related to liver disease
- TB

Localised peritonitis?
A
Seen with acute inflammation eg appendicitis
- Pain and localised tenderness more gradual onset
- Treat underlying cause

A
- Inflammation of peritoneal cavity
- Due to irritation *****

Signs and symptom of peritonitis?
A
- Abdo pain & tenderness
- Rigid abdomen
- Rebound tenderness
- Distended abdomen (if related to ascites)
- High temp
- Tachycardia

Investigations for peritonitis?
A
- Erect CXR (air under diaphragm due to perforation)
- Abdominal paracentesis

Management of peritonitis?
A
- Resuscitate pt (NG tube, IV fluids, ABs)
- Surgical= peritoneal lavage, treat underlying cause

Complications of peritonitis?
A
- Sepsis
- Multi-organ failure
- Abscess formation
