  • FBC (anaemia, raised platelets suggetsing inflammation)
  • ESR/CRP (maybe raised in inflammation)
  • Coeliac serology

Management of IBS?

A
  • ID dietary/mental triggers
  • Dietary advice
  • Recommend increased probiotic intake
  • Consider anti-diarhhoeals (loperamide)
  • Laxatives for constipation
  • Anti-spasmodics if abdo pain doesn’t resolve

  • Abdo exam to check for tenderness/masses

If patient reports . 6 months of abdo discomfort with

  • improvement with defecation
  • Change in frequency of stool
  • Change in appearance of stool
