What patients are at higher risk for complications due to pain management?

Answer 1

Altered mental status, Traumatic head injury, recent administration of other sedative type medications, elderly, known or suspected hypersensitivity, or those with kidney or liver failure.

What are the doses and routes for fentanyl?

Answer 2

1-2 mcg/ kilogram to a max dose of 75 mg.

Give slowly over two minutes.

Subsequent doses should be 1 mg per kilogram every 10 minutes to a max of 150 mg.

What is the pediatric dose for morphine?

Answer 3

.1 mg per kilogram to a max initial dose of 5 mg.

Subsequent doses may be repeated every 10 minutes at .05 mg/kilograms to a max of 15 mg total.
