Q

How many joules per kilogram are used for defibrillation in pediatric cardiac arrest?
What is the maximum number of joules per kilogram?

A

2 to 4 J per kilogram for the first shock, all subsequent shocks should be 4 J per kilogram

Maximum number of joules per kilogram is 10 J per kilogram or whatever the manufacturer recommends.

Q

What is the pediatric dose for amiodarone? What arrhythmias is Amiodarone used to treat in pediatric cardiac arrest?

Dose for amiodarone outside of cardiac arrest? And what does it treat?

A

5 mg/kilograms
Repeat up to 15 mg/kilograms up to a max dose of 300 mg

Amiodarone treats ventricular fibrillation and pulseless ventricular tachycardia.

In a case of ventricular tachycardia with a pulse, amiodarone can be used.

Dose: 5 mg per kilogram over 20 to 60 minutes. This can be achieved by placing 150 mg of amiodarone in a 10 mL syringe, then removing the necessary amount to have the correct number of milligrams. Add that into a buretrol, Attach a 60 drops that, and calculate the number of drops per second necessary to achieve the required dose.

Q

What is sodium bicarbonate used for in pediatric cardiac arrest? And what are the doses?

A

Sodium bicarbonate is used for acidosis, tricyclic antidepressant overdose, known hyperkalemia, and diabetic keto acidosis.

Dose: 1 meq /kg repeat in 10 minutes at .5 meq/kg

Follow diabetic ketoacidosis and tricyclic antidepressant protocols if such are suspected.
