What are the pharmacological treatments for blood loss in trauma patients?
Transexamic acid: 10 U in 250 mL/ 10 min
In pediatrics: 15 mg/kg in 250 mL/ 10 min.
What is one thing off neglected in prehospital trauma care?
Hypothermia/heat loss. Pay special attention to keeping the patient warm.
What kind of dressing should be used in burns?
Dry and sterile
Burns less tha how large can be cooled with NS or water?
10%
What age is the qualifier for using pediatric rule of nines?
< 4
What is the pediatric rule of nines?
14% per leg
18% for head
No groin percentage
When is succinylcholine contra indicated?
When the patient has a history of renal failure or burns occurred greater than 36 hours ago
What are the six p’s? What do they indicate?
Pain, pallor, poikilothermia, parasthesis, pulselessness, and paralysis
They indicate ACS (acute compartment syndrome)
When does acute crush syndrome become a significant concern?
For crush injury last in greater than two hours.
What should be given just prior to release of the leg or crush injury? What is the dose?
Sodium bicarb with the normal dose, and a subsequent infusion of 50 to 100 mEq in 1000 mL. Run at 150 mL/hr. Titration to effect.
Calcium chloride: 500–1000 mg
Do not give in the same line as sodium bicarb!!!!!!!!!!
